"Given the fact that none of us knows how we got here or what comes next, the only thing that makes any sense is -WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER."
The Universe
Balls bouncing - Bam! Bam! Hands slapping - Fwap! Fwap! Shoes
squeaking - Eek! Eek!
The men are short and stocky,
with coal black crew cuts, big guns, and thighs of steel. The room
shines like a cathedral.
I watch, my eyes darting back
and forth with the ball. Bam! Slap! Ugh. Swish...
A
thought bubble forms above my head. A question: WHY?
Why
build? Why play? Why watch?
Panic swoops in. My
abdomen surges. Why? Why build rooms with slick slats of wood in which
to run and jump, brick and swish? Why take a 30 inch ball and toss it at
a hoop ten feet in the air hoping it falls through? Why stand here and
watch?
Like ants marching on a beach ball going no
where, we know almost nothing about this blue green orb we inhabit. We
know almost nothing about How, or Who, or Why.
Looking
around I struggle to decide: Is this sublime or is it insane?
Slowly,
a door opens in my mind and behind the door in a sea of clouds is not
quite an answer:
Given the fact that none of us knows
how we got here or what comes next, the only thing that makes any sense
is -
WE
ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER.
